Short answer: visitors should not treat the Rose Quartz Quarry near Quadeville as a walk-in public collecting site. The current public listing says the Rose Quartz Mine is by appointment only, and a December 2025 Mindat locality note describes access as infrequent and arranged.[2][3]

The question asks what permission, permit or fee is required and where to verify access before travelling.[1]

What the current public information supports

  • Arrange access first: the Madawaska Valley Studio Tour listing says the Rose Quartz Mine is by appointment only.[2] The University of Waterloo’s archived AquaRose article also says visits to the rose quartz mine must be coordinated with the quarry owners, although that page warns that it may not be up to date.[4][unverified]
  • Contact route: the public listing gives quadevilleminerals@gmail.com and 613-639-0139 for the Beryl Pit and Rose Quartz Mine listing.[2] Treat those details as a lead to verify, not as proof that a booking is available on a particular date.[unverified]
  • Seasonality: the listing describes the sites as operating from spring until fall, but it does not provide a guaranteed current calendar, opening hours or walk-in schedule for the Rose Quartz Quarry.[2][unverified]
  • Current status is not the same as old directions: Mindat’s locality note says the quarry had recently changed owners and that access was, at that time, infrequent and arranged.[3] That supports calling ahead; it does not establish a fixed fee, hours or a guaranteed appointment today.[unverified]

Do not confuse the Rose Quartz Quarry with the Beryl Pit

BancroftOntario’s Beryl Pit page describes the Quadeville East Mine and the Quadeville West Mine/Rose Quartz Quarry as separate parts of the locality. It says Beryl Pit permits have been available at Kauffeldt’s Corner Store, where visitors can also receive directions to the Beryl Pit.[5]

That Beryl Pit permit route should not be assumed to authorize entry to the Rose Quartz Quarry. The public sources I found describe Rose Quartz access as owner-coordinated or appointment-only, not as a general Kauffeldt’s-store walk-in permit.[2][4][5][unverified]

What to confirm before travelling

  1. Whether the owner/operator is accepting appointments on the requested date and how much advance notice is required.[2][3][unverified]
  2. The current fee, payment method, waiver or release requirements, parking/meeting instructions and permitted access route.[unverified]
  3. Whether children or larger groups are accepted, what tools may be used, what material may be removed, and whether collecting is limited to a particular dump, exposure or supervised area.[unverified]
  4. Whether weather, blasting, mining work, seasonal conditions or owner restrictions have closed or changed access.[unverified]

Ontario rules still apply

Ontario’s Hobby Mineral Collecting Policy requires collectors to consider whether the land is open, respect separate surface and mining rights, use hand tools, and keep collecting personal, recreational or educational.[6]

The policy also directs users to confirm location-specific conditions through the MLAS Map Viewer and the local land-registry information available through ONLand.[6] A map pin, old guidebook, tourism listing or historical GPS coordinate is not permission to enter or remove material.[unverified]

Bottom line: arrange a Rose Quartz Quarry visit directly through the current public contact route, and get the appointment, fee, waiver, parking and collecting rules confirmed in advance. Do not arrive expecting the Beryl Pit’s permit process to cover the Rose Quartz Quarry, and do not enter or collect without current owner permission.[2][5][unverified]
