When does the road gate at Eagle’s Nest close for the season?

During which months is the roadway to Eagle’s Nest normally open, and where can visitors confirm whether the gate is open before making the drive?

The normal road-access season appears to run from the May long weekend to the Thanksgiving long weekend, with weather affecting the exact opening and closing dates. BancroftOntario.com gives that May-to-Thanksgiving seasonal window, while Hastings Trails describes Eagle’s Nest use as spring to late fall and weather-dependent.[1][2]

What to expect

  • Plan on the vehicle gate closing around Thanksgiving/late October, not on a guaranteed calendar date.[1][2]
  • I could not verify a dated 2026 closure announcement or a permanent annual gate schedule. The Town’s visitor page currently labels the Eagle’s Nest link “Closed for the season” but does not show a dated status update.[3]
  • The Stewards of Bancroft Eagles Nest Park’s update page is the most direct place to check for an annual gate announcement before driving.[4]
  • Once snow arrives, the Ontario Trails Council says the road to the top is closed and recommends snowshoes for winter access.[5]

Practical rule: if you are making a special trip to drive to the lookout, check the park’s latest update and the Town page on the same day. If the gate is closed, do not bypass it; treat the roadway as seasonally closed and use only an explicitly permitted walking/snowshoe route.[3][4][5]
