Papineau Lake

PAPINEAU LAKE

Papineau Lake is located in Hastings Highlands, approximately 30 minutes North East of Bancroft.  Papineau Lake is about 831 hectares in size with a maximum depth of about 64 meters. There is about 25% crown land surrounding, with a public beach located on the Southeast side.  It is a scenic lake, with a large island called Davis Island, that can been seen for just about anywhere on the lake. Fish species include Lake Trout, Northern Pike, Perch and Small Mouth Bass. Papineau Lake is located near Bark Lake and Kamaniskeg Lake. For more information on Papineau Lake, please visit the Papineau Lake Community Association.

If you’re looking for a place to swim, head over to beautiful Papineau Public Beach, located on the Southeast side.  The waterfront is sandy, and the water stays shallow for a ways out.  Parking isn’t too far from the beach, so it’s easy to get your gear to the water.

The small island is Davis Island. Since before 1950 W.J. Davis and family have owned that property. If I can find an old map I will see if there is a name on the big island. The most recent map has it named incorrectly.
