Turtle Crossing Signs

Help raise awareness and prevent turtle road mortality by purchasing a ‘WATCH 4 TURTLES’ sign. These signs are currently available for pick-up in Bancroft, Apsley, Guelph, Gravenhurst and Acton.

Turtles can be seen crossing roads during their active season, which typically runs from April to October. The period from April to mid-July is particularly busy for turtles, as it includes spring hatchlings, turtles emerging from hibernation, males searching for mates, females looking for nesting sites, and turtles foraging for food. They may also be on the move in response to habitat disturbances, drought, flooding, or other unknown reasons.

To help prevent turtle road mortality, turtle awareness signs serve as a useful reminder for motorists to be cautious when driving through rural communities, cottage country, the outskirts of urban areas, and on ATV trails. These signs alert drivers of potential turtle activity on the road ahead that may not be immediately apparent.
